Matthew Zilboorg is a licensed Psychologist and Licensed Alcohol and drug abuse Counselor with over 26 years experience in the field. He was licensed as a psychologist in Vermont in May of 1986.
Welcome to my Web Page. I’d like to share with you a little bit about myself. I have practiced in South Burlington since 1986, and have a general clinical psychology practice. I do specialize in several areas in which I have sought specialized training and education, these areas of specialty being the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Marital and Couples Therapy, Grief Completion, and the assessment and treatment of Substance Abuse problems, including addictions. I also treat depression and anxiety related problems as well as other psychological problems.
A question I am asked often is “What school or type of therapy do you practice?” This is an excellent question for a potential client to ask any psychologist. Most colleagues would call me a developmental psychologist, that is a therapist who believes that problems can be solved with work and attention, and that helping a client look at their lives and experiences is one of the best ways to do this. I am also very committed to finding the fastest AND most effective solution for the couples, families, and individuals who choose to see me for therapy. I believe that the men and women (and adolescents) that come to see me have the power to solve their problems, or can discover ways to empower themselves to feel better and have better lives of their own choosing.
I firmly believe that my clients know what is best for them and I work in therapy with them with this always in mind. I do understand that, often, when a client seeks out therapy for themselves that they do feel they need help in understanding or solving a problem – or life situation or a way of feeling, and that they may feel really stuck and as if they just can’t know or see the answers. Still, I believe in the client and that, with professional expertise and a structured and defined therapy with goals determined by the client, that change, success, and feeling better are almost always attainable for and by the client. Sometimes this can take place very quickly, and sometimes it takes more time. What I want for my clients are real and sustainable solutions, so that their lives will remain better after therapy ends and that they will have the tools to continue to grow and engage and enjoy life as they choose.
I accept Most Insurances and will work with people without insurance or those who choose not to use insurance to assist in making therapy affordable to them and am willing to discuss affordable services on a “Sliding Scale” basis.
I do not feel, as a psychologist, that services should not be available to someone simply because their present financial state is stressful. While I cannot guarantee I can see everyone – there is only so much time in my schedule, I will always return a call and discuss things with anyone seeking help and change. This way I can understand a bit better and suggest other referrals and avenues of help with you even if I cannot find the time to see you.
